IIT JEE 2011

IIT JEE 2011 Paper -1 :
The first paper consisted of a total of 69 problems containing a total weightage of 240 marks. The paper was designed with this order of subjects : Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Each subject consisted of equal questions out of 69, so there were 23 problems meant for each section.
Paper 1 pattern :
  •  Each section consisted of 7 single choice correct type questions ( Q no. 1 - 7) with a marking pattern of +3 of corect answer, whereas a -1 for every wrong answer.
  •  4 multiple choice correct questions are present in the paper for each section (Q. no. 8 -11) with a marking scheme of +4 for correct answer(s). However there was no negetive marking in this section of the paper.
  •  The third part of the question paper consisted of 5 ( Q. no. 12 - 16 single option correct) comprehension based questions included in two comprehensions. 2 questions in the first comprehension passage and rest 3 in the 2nd passage. The marking scheme was +3 for every correct answer and -1 mark for wrong answer.
  • The final part of the paper consisted of 7 Integer type questions for each section (O. no. 17 - 23). The answer to each question in this section was a single digit lying between 0-9. The marking scheme for this part was +4 for every correct answer while there was no negative marking for this section.
All the necessary exam details and instructions were provided to the applicants on the front sheet of the question paper. But this change, as a matter of shock, only 2 extra pages were provided to the students for doing the rough work while solving the problems.
As usual, students felt that Chemistry was easier (as always) and Maths was bit hard and tough. Level of Physics questions was standard according to the JEE level.
IIT-JEE Paper 2 :
The paper 2 of the IIT-JEE 2011, consisted of a total of 60 questions covering a total weightage of 240 marks. The order of subjects was same as that of the 1st paper : Chemistry, Physics and Maths. Total 60 questions were equally divided into three subjects, containing 20 questions each.
Paper 2 pattern :
  • First 8 questions were single choice correct MCQ's for every section with a marking pattern of +3 for correct answer and -1 for wrong answer. This section covered a total of 24 marks for each section.
  • 4 multiple choice correct questions are present in the paper for each section (Q. no. 9 -12) with a marking scheme of +4 for correct answer(s). However there was no negetive marking in this section of the paper. However, unlike last time, there was no partial marking for correct answer in this section.
  • Third part of the 2nd paper consisted of 6 Integer type questions for each section (Q. no. 13 - 18). The answer to each question in this section was a single digit lying between 0-9. The marking scheme for this part was +4 for every correct answer while there was no negative marking for this section.
  • The final part of the IIT-JEE 2011 2nd paper was as usual consisting of the 'Matrix Match. Type problems. There were 2 Matrix questions (Q. no. 19-20), with 4 rows in each matrix for 16 marks. every row of the matrix based problem consisted of 2 marks. As usual, there wasn't any negetive marking in this section.
Unlike the 1st paper, students felt that the Chemistry section of the 2nd paper was a bit tougher. The level of the Physics and Mathematics questions was moderately difficult.
